If you didn’t get the results you wanted last week but you’re still hoping to start university this September, there is the option of clearing.

Thousands of applications are accepted through clearing every year, with courses available across the main Universities in the UK.

Following results day, Universities have been sharing helpful content around clearing on social media, including interviews with current students talking about their experiences. If you have a university in mind, this could be a great place to start.

If you decide clearing is for you, below is everything you need to know!

Clearing is open from 6 July to 20 October on the UCAS website. If you weren’t accepted for your University choices, your UCAS account will show an option to apply through clearing. You can then add a clearing choice by selecting your ‘next steps’ and going through the course and university vacancies in the UCAS search tool.

Once you’ve found a course you’re interested in, UCAS advise students to call the university administration team to enquire about the place. If they confirm you’re eligible, you can add your choice in the Track section of the UCAS website. Your choice will then accept or decline your place, which will update in your status.

You can only apply for one clearing course at a time, so make sure it’s the place you want!

Good luck – we hope to welcome you to Sheffield this September!
